Ordinary Engineering — interop bridge

The front page. Everything else is undocumented.

Ordinary Engineering

Ordinary Engineering's org chart has a footnote nobody talks about: Universe-98, a timeline where the internet stalled out around 1998 and never left. We still hold a legacy interop contract with Universe-98's central compliance system, because their auditors will only accept requests from verified period-correct software.

Universe-98 compliance note: all interop traffic must originate from software their auditors recognize. If your request comes back empty, it's not that the door is locked. It's that Universe-98 doesn't believe you're old enough to knock.

The bridge service that talks to them was bolted onto the main API years ago by someone who has long since left the company. It does not reject old-fashioned requests. It rejects everything else, silently, as if the route were never there at all.

Before there was Netscape, there was something else. Universe-98's compliance office still swears by it.
